About Kent Gastroenterology

Backed by more than 25 years of clinical practice experience, Dr Hemant Sharma is a qualified gastroenterologist based in Tunbridge Wells. At Kent Gastroenterology, he specialises in managing all forms of gastroenterological disorders, with a sub-specialist interest in both preventing and treating liver diseases. About Dr Sharma

Dr Sharma is the clinical lead of the Gastroenterology department at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. Serving patients throughout Kent, he carries out his independent practice at the Wells Suite in Tunbridge Wells Hospital and also sees private patients at:

  • Nuffield Tunbridge Wells Hospital

  • Wells Suite, Tunbridge Wells Hospital

  • Wells Health, Fordcombe Hospital

  • Benenden Hospital, Cranbrook

Considered an expert in his field, he regularly sees patients who have been referred by peers and GPs, or self-referred, so they can benefit from his understanding of complex gastrointestinal disorders.

Experience

Formerly the Endoscopy lead at his previous NHS hospital, Dr Sharma led his team to achieve the highly coveted JAG certificate, the hallmark of excellence in gastrointestinal endoscopy services. He is the chair of the benign liver meeting at his hospital discussing and providing management plans for these complex cases to his peers and other teams.

Furthermore, he is an expert in performing endoscopies of all types, both upper and lower GI endoscopies (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) as well as endoscopies for gall stones i.e. ERCP. Dr Sharma has carried out more than 15,000 endoscopies and has started the service of endoscopic stenting of colorectal cancer in Kent.
